Plainview Contact Lens Exams

The first step to vision care without need for prescription eyeglasses is to book your specialized contact lens examination. This exam is far different from a standard vision test, as it works to provide specialized measurements of the surface of your eye as well as your optical health to insure the perfect fit and comfort of your new contact lenses. Unlike your old eyeglasses, contact lenses work to correct the shape of your eyes themselves, allowing your eyes to see perfectly without the need for your old eyeglasses. Your trusted Plainview NY optometrist works with you to insure dry eyes will not disrupt your comfort, as well as helping you to determine the perfect lens for your optical and personal needs. Most vision problems, including nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism, can be successfully treated through the use of soft contact lenses. Astigmatism will require special toric lenses to be properly weighted for your unique visual needs. Soft contact lenses are available in various disposable varieties, including daily disposable varieties for easy care, extended wear styles for up to 14 hours of comfort, as well as styles that can be even worn overnight. Every contact lens exam is complete with a contact lens fitting. Plainview Eye Doctor

Optometrist in Plainview

Your eyes are prone to damage that can come about as the result of diabetes, either type1 or type 2. Optical Image is committed to preventing you from being affected by the negative repercussions that diabetes can have on your eyes. Through diabetic eye exams and ongoing care, our Plainview eye doctor will help you to notice sings of possible diabetic retinopathy and seek prompt treatment.

Diabetic Retinopathy Plainview

Diabetic Retinopathy Plainview

Because symptoms are often not present as diabetic retinopathy develops and progresses, it is vital that anyone with diabetes receive a diabetic eye exam every year (or more often if deemed necessary by our Plainview eye doctor). Since diabetes can have an impact on your retinas, it is essential to get a good look at the back of your eyes. If there is any damage to the blood vessels there due to diabetic retinopathy, it can be addressed to prevent more serious consequences, including glaucoma and in the most extreme instances, even death. This is not mentioned to frighten you, but rather to underscore the need for regular care and exams.

Symptoms may eventually become evident and if you experience any of the following, you should consider it an imperative to call us and schedule an eye exam with our Plainview eye doctor as soon as possible: floaters, or spots that you see in your field of vision, blurred vision, difficulties in perceiving colors, and any degree of vision loss. None of the listed signs ensures that you have diabetic retinopathy, but it does mean that you should be checked.

If it turns out that your eyes are being affected by diabetes, our Plainview eye doctor will work closely with you and possibly refer you to a specialist for follow up treatment. Continued care in the form of regularly scheduled exams and close attention paid to any potential symptoms is an important aspect of keeping your eyes healthy and strong. The best way to avoid the effects of diabetes at all, including on your eyes, is to follow your primary doctor’s recommendations for regulating your blood sugar. Working as a team, we can prevent diabetic retinopathy from causing damage to your eyes.

Sunglasses Plainview

Sunglasses are a form of protective eyewear mainly designed to prevent bright sunlight, and its UV rays, from damaging your eyes. They can also function as a visual aid since your prescription lenses can be colored, darkened, or polarized. Our quality sports eyewear, recommended by our Plainview optician, come with UV coatings that won’t rub off after several cleanings. Other options available include lenses that are polarized, water repellent, or have bi-gradient mirror or anti-reflective coatings. All these options are excellent to have when playing sports.

Sports are a major pastime worldwide and while we go to great lengths to protect against broken bones, cuts and bruises, we often don’t think to protect ourselves against scratched corneas, fractured eye sockets or permanent vision loss. There are many varieties of sports performance eyewear designed to not only protect your eyes and your vision, but to enhance your athletic performance. Wearing eyewear that’s especially designed for sports has definite protective and performance benefits. Our Plainview optician reminds our patients that good eye health should always be considered before choosing any eye wear.

We all want to look great in our sunglasses but our sun and recreational eyewear serve purposes other than looking good and blocking out the sun’s harmful rays. Regular sunglasses can be prescription or non-prescription and worn for driving, walking, driving, or other outdoor activities. When you wear sunglasses to participate in sports activities, however, there is definitely specific eyewear intended for certain sports. Many designers have also combined fashion with function when it comes to sports-related eyewear and our specialists can help you find exactly what you need to wear while playing your sport of choice. There are specific sports activities where the equipment used can cause more damage than others and that is when we highly recommend wearing eye protection. Sports performance eyewear offers the proper protection for most sports, available in both prescription and nonprescription lenses as well. Whatever sport or high energy activity you participate in, our Plainview optician will be able to recommend a pair of sports performance eyewear perfect for you. As far as lenses are concerned, it’s most important that the sports eyewear, or goggles, offer 100% UV protection. Glare increases on surfaces such as snow, and regular sun lenses don’t provide enough absorption of glare. So you won’t need to squint, you may want to consider polarized lenses which absorb 98% of the glare.

Do you often notice your son or daughter struggling to cope with sensitivity to light, or experiencing difficulty reading that often appears to be similar to other conditions such as ADHD? If your child is experiencing any of these issues on a regular basis, the problem could be more than just that of the mind, but could in fact be the cause of a type of vision problem known as a binocular vision disorder. The only way to tell for sure why binocular vision problem is affecting your child is by visiting the specialists at your local Plainview optometrist at the offices of Optical Image for the expert care young eyes need to succeed.

Superior oblique palsy is one type of binocular vision problem that while uncommon, can still occur in children and adults alike. This condition can be caused by a rare form of genetic disorder, but it is most often caused by any form of head injury, from major collision with a vehicle to even a small bump on the head from sports conduct. Any form of injury which hampers the ability of the IVth cranial nerve to receive blood can cause superior oblique palsy to form. Parents may notice how their son or daughter will tilt their head to one side in an attempt to compensate for the imbalance. The only way to tell for certain if this problem is affecting your child is with an examination from your trusted Plainview optometrist.

Vertical heterophoria is a binocular vision condition that occurs when one eye processes the image before it as being higher than the other eye. In some cases this can occur due to one eye actually being physically higher than the other, while in others it occurs due to the eyes being improperly aligned via muscles or nerve abnormalities below the surface. Like superior oblique palsy, common symptoms of this disorder include motion sickness and nausea, poor depth perception, a lack of balance, and difficulty reading that often appears to a patient to be as if the words are skipping lines or otherwise colliding into each other, making it difficult to keep one’s place. Our binocular vision treatment experts at your professional Plainview optometrist can provide the diagnosis you need to begin your treatment as soon as possible.

Our fully licensed and professionally trained staff at your neighborhood Plainview optometrist have been proudly treating binocular vision problems just like the one plaguing you or your children for over twenty years. We combined personalized care with state of the art practice at our advanced care offices of Optical Image. With binocular optical treatment from the Optical Image you can live a life free from headaches and dizziness once more.

Optical Store Plainview

Eyeglasses 11803

It is the goal of our Plainview optical store, Optical Image, to provide our customers with quality and caring optical service. From offering the best and latest in optometry care to offering the finest in multifocal lenses, we know that we will be serving our community for another 20 great years.

Many of our customers come in to see us about multifocal lenses. And as your go-to Plainview optical store we are proud to be able to offer our customers a wide selection of options. From progressives to bifocals and trifocals, we have the needs of our patients in mind and covered.

Bifocals Plainview

Bifocals Plainview

As we get older, we begin to have trouble reading and this becomes especially apparent in low light situations. This is a common condition called presbyopia and most often occurs in people over the age of 40. Reading a menu in a dimly lit room can become a struggle. Multifocal lenses are the simple, painless and cost effective solution to this problem. Traditionally patients wore bifocals, and they still do in many instances. Some patients find that they are the most natural solution for their vision needs. Bifocals break the lens into two fields of vision, one for clear distance vision and another for clear near-field vision. Trifocals simply have three fields of vision.

While both bifocals and trifocals help patients to have clear and dynamic vision, some patients find that the sudden break in the lens from distance to near-field vision is distracting. That is why progressive lenses are a good third option. Just like bifocals and trifocals they are a multifocal lens with the distinct difference in the fact that they provide a seamless progression of lens strength. You can see at any distance and the transition from seeing distance and objects up close is not “jumpy” as some people find with traditional multifocal lenses.

When you visit our Plainview optical store, Optical Image, you will be working with dedicated professionals to find which multifocal lens fits you and your lifestyle the best. It is the mission of our staff to make sure that your vision is clear and healthy.

Plainview Opticians

Optical Goods 11803

If you participate in sports one of the most important pieces of equipment you can get is protective eyewear. Our Plainview opticians and the rest of our knowledgeable staff at our practice, Optical Image highly recommends eye protection for all sports enthusiasts. The type of protective eyewear you will need will be determined by the type of sport you participate in. For example, if you’re a swimmer, we recommend getting swim goggles. If you enjoy swimming in the pool, the ocean or are on a swim team and swim frequently, swim goggles need to be worn while swimming in order to protect your eyes. Without swim goggles you are at risk of harsh chemicals and other substances entering your eyes.

Safety Eyewear Plainview

Safety Eyewear Plainview

When you are dealing with one of your most precious assets, your eyes, you need to take preventative measures at all times in order to maintain your best optical health. Swim goggles are very important to wear because they protect your eyes from chemicals, debris, salt and direct rays from the sun. It’s even more important for people who swim a lot to get swim goggles because their exposure to harsh agents and direct sunlight (if they swim outdoors) is much greater than someone who swims on occasion. However, since it is very important to do everything possible to protect our eyes, even if you swim occasionally, it’s highly recommended that you wear swim goggles for safety and protection each time you swim. Therefore, whether you swim occasionally or you’re swim often, our Plainview opticians highly recommend that you wear swim goggles. There are two different types of swim goggles, RX and non-RX. Rx swim goggles prescription goggles provide the vision correction you need while also providing you with necessary eye protection. If you don’t have vision problems, then getting non-RX swim goggles would be appropriate for you.

When you come to our practice, Optical Image, our expert Plainview opticians
and the rest of our caring, professional and highly trained staff will assist you in choosing the appropriate swim goggles for you based on your individual needs. We’re dedicated to providing exceptional service to each and every one of our patients. We welcome you to give our office a call if you have any questions or concerns.

They are thin plastic lenses placed directly on the eye to correct vision problems. Many people who lead active lifestyles choose contacts over glasses because they want clear and crisp vision without having a pair of fragile glasses on their face.

Contact Lens Exams

If you’re considering contact lenses, your first stop should be to Optical Image Plainview to receive a contact lens exam from Dr. Israeloff. During this examination, our trusted opticians will determine if your eyes are healthy enough to wear contacts. Then your eyes will be measured so that your contacts will fit properly and comfortably on your eyes. If it is your first time wearing contact lenses, the opticians at our Plainview optical store will assist you in placing the contact lenses in and taking them out. They will help you feel more comfortable with using them daily and teach you how to properly care for them.

Types of Contact Lenses

There are three main categories of contact lenses: soft contacts, rigid gas permeable (GP) contacts and hybrid lenses. Each is made of a different material. Soft contacts are made of pliable hydrophilic plastics called hydrogels. These lenses are soft and supple because of their high water content. Soft contacts are also divided into four basic categories for specific eye problems, including spherical or regular contacts, contacts for astigmatism, contacts for presbyopia, and color or cosmetic contacts. GP or RGP lenses are rigid contact lenses without the significant amount of water that makes up soft lenses. Hybrid contact lenses have a rigid GP central optical zone, surrounded by a peripheral fitting zone made of the soft contact lens material. This is a happy medium between the two other contacts.

How often do you I change Contacts?

There are variety of different contact lenses, some of which are meant only for daily wear and other that are changed monthly. If you have daily contacts, you discard them at the end of the evening and wear a new pair each morning. Others however need to be replaced weekly or monthly, which requires proper removal, cleaning, disinfecting and storing. Our eye care professionals at Optical Image Plainview will show you how to properly disinfect and store your contacts.

Be aware that wearing contact lenses for an extended period of time can result in blurry vision, pain, or redness due to a lack of oxygen passing through the eye. It is important to remember that contact lenses are medical devices (they require a prescription after all) and should thus be treated with proper care to keep your eyes healthy and safe.
